It is with great sadness that we heard that Gordon Linford passed away in the early hours of January 24th at the age of 93.
Gordon was a typically blunt Yorkshireman, born in East Ardsley, near Wakefield.
On retiring to the Algarve with his wife, Margaret, he took up bowls and fully immersed himself in the local community, becoming chairman of the Valverde Bowls Club in Almancil.
Gordon, who followed Leeds United FC, was a regular supporter of SC Olhanense. When Walking Football was introduced into Portugal at Olhão some ten years ago, ‘no nonsense’ Gordon became a regular referee at the weekly sessions. He will be long remembered for his acerbic wit and friendly banter, which made him a popular and much loved member of East Algarve Walking Football.
Our sincere condolences go to his wife Margaret, and all his family and friends at this difficult time.
Gordon’s funeral will take place at Faro Crematorium on Monday February 2nd at 11.00 am (Estrada da Penha, Nº 214-A, Faro).
Family flowers only, but donations can be made to Olhão Bombeiros.
