On Sunday July 25th, EAWF fielded two teams in a friendly mini-tournament against our friends from Farense at the Campo Desportivo Montenegro.
Both EAWF and Farense fielded an over 50s and an over 60s team, with all teams playing each other at 7-a-side walking football.
EAWF over 50s narrowly lost to Farense over 50s by a solitary goal in a game that produced few chances (in part down to the very small goals). At the same time on the adjacent pitch, EAWF over 60s played out a 0-0 draw with Farense over 60s.
EAWF over 50s then narrowly beat Farense over 60s with the solitary goal coming from our super sub Foxy, with a toe poke scuff that somehow found its way into the net (although he somehow claimed it was an exquisite finish and placed beautifully).
EAWF over 60s lost to another 1-0 scoreline against Farense over 50s, with the EAWF over 50s versus over 60s match finishing in a 0-0 draw.
To finish off the morning, the two EAWF teams combined to play 11-a-side walking football against the combined Farense side on the full size pitch, where 30 minutes of football produced no goals yet again.
Well done foxy for the solo goal, to Phil for managing to come off twice with injury, Andy for his goalkeeping debut and to Verner, Mo and Tony for their debut appearances – welcome to our team!
Farense then very kindly provided lunch and a glass of beer and wine for all the competitors to finish off a great morning’s football.
Many thanks to Farense for their very generous hospitality, and also a massive thanks to Jon Berrill and Les for refereeing all the matches.
We hope this will become a regular fixture in the future, and there is already talk of a repeat tournament at the end of August.
Thanks to Karl Chapman for the photos
I think the solo goal scored by EAWF should be put in coaching manuals for study, I also think the club reporter should be replaced????????
Thanks Lionel, we’re making a video for distribution to coaching academies around the world. The club reporter has been dealt with (we won’t see him again). Feel free to pop in for a session when you’re around. Foxy can give you some top tips to help improve your game.
Congratulations to everyone who turned out.
