Dear Friends,

As many of you will now be aware, last week we very sadly lost our dear friend Henrik Misiorny.

We’ve noted his sudden passing at our football sessions but we also wanted to recognise it in this note, and extend our deepest sympathies to his wife Janette and his son Erasmus and daughter Mimmi, and wider family.

Henrik will forever be in our thoughts. He famously organised the first ever East Algarve Walking Football Golf Day in 2019, repeating its success a year later. He loved playing golf with his wife, Janette, along with regular games of boules, and walking and jogging in the hills of his beloved Tavira.

Henrik was a regular at our football sessions and successfully represented us in several tournaments where he demonstrated his excellent goalkeeping prowess. In many ways, Henrik was a very modest person, rarely mentioning he had once played professional football in his homeland of Sweden, from which he emigrated to Tavira in August 2017. His talent however, was there to see.

Far more than his sporting prowess, Henrik will forever be remembered for always being there with a smile and for his love of life. He had a wonderful ability to not take things (or himself) too seriously. Henrik was quick to share a joke and join in the fun, both at the football itself and at our social events, which he graciously supported and so helped raise for funds for local good causes, something which was so typical of Henrik’s warmth and generosity.

On behalf of all of us, Jonathan has been in contact with Janette and offered to provide all the support we can and, with Janette’s agreement, we’re looking at organising an event at which we can join together and celebrate Henrik’s life.

At the time of writing, funeral arrangements are still to be confirmed.

We miss you Henrik and we always will.
