Chris Wright is organising a dinner to celebrate 10 years of walking football in Portugal.
Whilst this event is not being organised or subsidised by the club, we do encourage as many of our members who are able to attend to do so as it is sure to be a great evening.
“It was September 2014 at the José Arcanjo Stadium, Olhão, home of SC Olhanense, when a group of elderly gentlemen strapped up their joints, massaged in muscle rub and took to the Astro-turf for the new phenomenon of walking football. It was a year when goal line technology was first used in the English Premier League but five years before the dreaded VAR reared its ugly head. Those original Walking Football pioneers were not worried about such things; their only problem was not breaking into a run! The introduction of the sport to Portugal soon attracted the attention of Benfica who invited the Algarve group to the Estádio da Luz in Lisbon to demonstrate the benefits of the sport. To celebrate ten years of the slow paced ‘beautiful game’ in Portugal, a Celebratory Dinner is being held at Centre Algarve, Moncarapacho on Thursday 12th September.”
