Teams selected for Albufeira….

We will be entering 3 teams into the tournament in Albufeira in March.

It is a 7-a-side one day tournament, no running and 3 touches. We are awaiting more comprehensive rules and details at this time.

We have at this stage selected 3 teams of 10 with 3 subs. The selections and final numbers may well change as we draw closer to the date. Injuries being the usual reason. The club will pay all players entry fees. The club will provide shirts and if we can suggest you could wear white shorts and white socks that would be great.

Andy Smith has circulated a list of hotels for those who wish to stay in Albufeira, I know a number of people are staying the night after the tournament. Always a decent jolly I might add.

Each team will have a captain who be responsible for co-ordinating their respective team including practice, selection of positions, familiarity with the rules, tactics and team selection and substitutions on the day.

We would like to thank the other members of the selection group for giving their free time to ensuring that we are well represented once again at an Algarvian Tournament, particularly as the club is  defending this trophy.

Please find below the selected teams; please note anyone else wanting to play but not registered to play will be on a wait & see basis.

A “proper” footie match on December 17th……

In a departure from the norm, we are trying to arrange a “proper” 11-a-side footie match (normal football rules etc) on Saturday 17th December against “Destination Football FC”. Time and venue are to be confirmed (but it will be a proper stadium). We do need to know if we can get the numbers needed before we commit, so can anyone who wants to play let us know asap by commenting below.

Only commit if you are sure you can make the Saturday match and  understand that it will be normal football (i.e. tackling/running etc all allowed). The opposition will be probably a bit younger than us, but hopefully our experience will make up for it! No age limit for those that want to play……..

Walking Football Kicks Off IN Sao Bras

Under a clear blue sky eighteen mature players put their best feet forward as São Brás de Alportel welcomed its first ever Walking Football session for those over 50 years of age.

This is a slow version of the beautiful game with no running on or off the ball; minimal contact, no slide tackling or tackling from behind. For the newcomers it was definitely a case of self discipline as the natural reaction is to break into a jog!

Thanks to the efforts of Alex Moreira and Ian Lowe and with the support
