Mike Wreford Beach Festival

We are holding a beach festival on July 27th at Camaleao Beach Bar on Armona Island.

Everyone associated with the club (including WAGS) are invited. The ferry leaves the Olhao Pier at 2.30 pm, with a 1.5 km walk to the beach. There is a ferry back from Armona pier at 8.30 pm, or water taxis can be booked if you wish to travel earlier or later.

Activities will include: beach volleyball, beach football, beach petanque, beach rounders, swimming, frolicking, cavorting and much, much more (no heavy petting or running!)

Cost will be €10 per person, including a meal and a drink thanks to a subsidy from the club, with meat, fish or vegetarian available. The ferry is extra.

Accommodation on the island is available if required (please see Jonathan Syed for info)

Walking Football Laws for the Algarve

Following the release of the walking football (WF) laws in February 2017 by the FA, as produced and established in November 2016, a working group here in the Eastern Algarve will review the laws of the game to produce a set of laws specifically for East Algarve Walking Football (EAWF). Sao Bras sessions come to an end with tournament glory….

Unfortunately, the sessions in Sao Bras on a Tuesday have drawn to a conclusion due to the small numbers attending.

With a last hurrah, the team from Sao Bras recently played in the tournament in Vilamoura where 3 wins and a draw saw them reach the knockout rounds. A defeat on penalties in the first knockout round led to a semi-final win in the Plate competition. Unfortunately they lost in the final.

Many thanks to those who entered and tried to keep Sao Bras going to the end.

A Message from Christine & Chris Wright

After a fraught, and sometimes frightening, couple of months we were looking forward to a quiet meal with Anita & Andy last Thursday evening. On arriving at the restaurant we were completely bowled over to find so many friends giving us such a rousing welcome which was without doubt just the tonic we needed.

We had no inclination of what had been organised; it’s not often I’m speechless but that evening I certainly was! Christine and I would like to convey our most heartfelt thanks to everyone, and the many good wishes from those who could not be present, who made it a very special occasion that will long live in our memory.

We really do appreciative your wonderful support and friendship.
Thank you. xxx

New non-contact, slower paced sessions to start in July at Olhao

Tackles, challenges, and respect for officials is very much in the personal domain of each player and, irrespective of age, we all need to show self restraint and uphold the main concept of Walking Football. As one of the older players, our leader and mentor Chris Wright has for some time intimated that we should go a step further and initiate a session for those who wish to play at a slower pace without the fear of the odd knock or tackle. This may well address the concerns of those who are now 3 years older than when we first started! Continue reading “New non-contact, slower paced sessions to start in July at Olhao”

“Free” April extending to “Two Euro” May

Due to the increased numbers now taking part at both Olhao and Tavira, we have decided to reduce the normal session fees for May. Following on from the free sessions in April, all sessions at Tavira and Olhao will now only be €2 (instead of the usual €3) for the month of May.

Thank you for your continued support
